Is Your Home Beach-Inspired? Here’s How to Get That Coastal Vibe.

Is Your Home Beach-Inspired? Here’s How to Get That Coastal Vibe.

You may or may not already know this, but around this time last year, the beloved coastal grandmother trend on TikTok skyrocketed into popularity. As summer 2022 approached, Millennials and Gen Zers were united in their love for the minimalistic aesthetic and everything it stood for, including all-white attire, relaxed wine nights, and a going-to-bed-early mentality. Now, as the summer season approaches again, we’re thinking about beach-inspired homes, filled with good light and vibes so immaculate you could almost catch a whiff of the ocean from inside.

Whether or not you subscribe to the coastal grandmother lifestyle or any of its subcategories (“coastal chic” and many more), if you love a beach-inspired home like we do, let’s talk design. We’d like to share 3 ways you can curate a beachy feel in your home, even if yours is landlocked!

3 Tips for Creating a Coastal Vibe

1. Natural textures are everything.

Texture is going to be key in creating a coastal-inspired home. Lucky for you, there are so many to choose from! Linen and seagrass are both lovely additions, as is driftwood. Shellwork and woven textures are also great, and can be incorporated in a variety of features, too. By mixing and matching natural materials you’d find near the beach, you can create interest in your space and bring a bit of the outside in.

2. Choose colors that mimic the water + sky.

Think neutrals and all shades of natural greens and blues here. These cool, relaxing tones will bring the ocean–and all its calming properties–to mind. That being said, if you like pops of color, we think using a few accents of sunset-colored shades is a great idea! You can incorporate this palette through paint colors, furniture, drapes and bedding, and more.

3. Use unique but relevant accessories.

Accessories are particularly important in providing a beachy feel. They also allow you to feature a local artist from the region: look for someone who specializes in painting, handmade sculptures, or intricate vine art. Our team had an artist make a beautiful, modern turtle sculpture for one of our projects not long ago, and we absolutely fell in love with the piece and what it added to our client’s home.

We do want to mention that in general, less is more when it comes to accessories. Because so much of your beach-inspired decor is going to be driven by minimalism and bringing in great light, highlighting just a few unique and high-quality accessories is best. This design aesthetic is all about the luxurious yet simple life–not a frantic, cluttered one. A little goes a long way!

(We think all the coastal grandmothers will agree.)
